Haven't done a sleeping post in a while and there's been some sleeping things going on. Hailey's never been a super night time sleeper. She didn't sleep through the night until she was 3 and even then she would regularly wake up around 3:00. Well last May she decided she was done with wearing a diaper at night. And true to that girls personality, she has not had one single accident in the last 8 months. I find that incredible...but off topic. Amazingly she's never had an accident but she does get up to go to the bathroom one to three times a night. She used to get up and go by herself but then she started calling for help. And then she started calling for us for a number of different reasons, each of which left either Dave or I or both of us getting up multiple times during the night. That makes for tired parents. So Dave gave her the "talk" that she shouldn't call us during the night unless she really needed us. And she was better for a week or so.....until she discovered she could just walk into our room. About that time we had a few sleepless nights with an extra little body in our already full bed. Now things have settled down a bit. She's been taking herself to the bathroom. I hear the flush and then wait. Sometimes she goes back to bed and sometimes I end up with a cute little girl standing by my bed. Occasionally she comes in just for a chat....that girl has some stuff on her mind during the night. More often than not I hear, "mom, I'm cold, can I snuggle with you for a little bit". And she crawls in and hangs out for a while and I get some great snuggles until she decides she's ready to go back to her bed. She'll usually take herself back to bed. We still end up with interrupted sleep but I definitely prefer our current situation because I get to stay in my warm toasty bed. Which is nice because when I have to get out of bed to go to her,
I get cold.
Tyler has had his own challenges with sleep. Tyler has always been a good sleeper once he falls asleep. When he was little he used to get night terrors. Crying/screaming fits that would last 20 minutes. It would happen every couple of months. Then he sort of just out grew them. Then they showed up again a couple months ago. It happened like clockwork about an hour after he fell asleep. He wake up crying and calling "mommy, mommy, ouchie, ouchie" and he moves all about unable to stay still and covers his face with his hands, and his eyes have this sad sad look that's a combination of devastation, fright, and panic. I sit and hold him and rock him and it doesn't really seem to do anything for him but it makes me feel better. It only lasts about 10 minutes and then there is a big yawn and he falls asleep. The next morning he has zero recollection. A couple months ago when it started it happened once and then again a week later. Then they started happening more frequently until it was happening every single night. After a little research on the computer we tried a waking him every night right about the time he has his terrors. The goal is to catch him before he gets stuck in between his light and deep sleep transition. He isn't an easy boy to wake but Dave was able to wake him most nights and ask him a question and then we'd let him go back to sleep. So far, knock on wood, it has worked. It's been about a week since he has had a terror.
