The Bird's Nest
While we wait for the volume of hair on Hailey's head to grwo, we worry for the end result. Clearly, Hailey is a mix of Val and I with a little curveball thrown in. She appears to have some type of my curly hair with the red tinge of Val's though in a lighter shade. The best description for her hair's behavior is...NUTTS! Could you imagine trying to run a comb through this? There is the very real possibility that if she fell asleep outdoors a family of birds would lay claim to her head!
A Day on the Deck
My week ended Friday morning (night shift) and after a few hours nap I found that the world was sunny and warm outside. Me and the kids hit the back deck for some coloring, motorcycle drive thru lego shopping (see below) and of course...popsicles. I really miss these kiddos when I am at work.
This may not be on the deck but it's pretty cute!

Hailey has recently found an interest in her pink girly legos.
Disregard the opaque man in the background, the kids are cming up to the 'store' to buy things. Notice the cash machine on my lounge chair.

Wiggley Eyes
I bought some wiggley eyes thinking the kids could use them for some art projects. They had something else in mind.

Hailey painted my toes for me the other day. This picture just doesn't do it justice. She tried/worked very hard. She still needs some (a lot of) practice but I enjoyed the "spa like" treatment.

Hailey and her books
Hailey learned all her letters and sounds really early (before she was two). So I guess it shouldn't be a surprise that she is already starting to read. We have some early reader books (thank you Tonya, Julie, and Kaylee) meant for Ty that Hailey just loves. She's only three so it's not perfect but she is really good at sounding out all the letters in the words and then smooshing all the sounds together to say the word. I've been beyond impressed multiple times. She is really able to say almost all the three letter words and even some of the bigger ones. But she also has a very good/quick memory. She can pick out words she's seen/heard but not read before. She's great at identifying Costco and I can no longer have the name Word Girl or Umi Zumi show up on the DVR listed without her calling out that she wants to watch it.
I was very surprised the other day when she picked up this book (which we have never read or looked at before) brought it over to me and said, "Big Pig and little Pig" with a big smile on her face.
Tyler on the other hand doesn't want to be bothered by reading. He would much rather be read to. My take on his position (assuming I could read his mind, which I can't).....why should I work really hard and take a long time to read "Dot can hop" when someone can read Harry Potter to me." Though he has made an effort on a couple of occasions after being peer pressured by Hailey. "Mom, how come Hailey can read?". But more often than not I hear, "mom, just read it to me".

Harry Potter
Tyler has always loved, loved, loved to be told stories. We on the other hand have been feeling like we have run out of stories to tell. So we thought we'd try reading a novel to Ty. Would he be interested in just listening, even if there are no pictures to look at? We made our first attempt at reading a novel aloud with Harry Potter.
Tyler is hooked!! We made it through the first book in about 2 weeks and are on the second. Tyler loves them. He pays very close attention (even when he seems like he is doing something totally different). He thinks the funny parts are funny and when something exciting/scary is about to happen he pulls his covers over his head in anticipation. It has also been a great thing for passing the time when Tyler has to come to Hailey's gymnastics. Now if only I could get him this interested in starting to read on his own :). Tyler can't wait to see the movies. So we've convinced him that we can read the books now and then when he get to be older he can read the books again himself and then watch the movie after he finishes each book in the series.

Easter Egg Decoration
I have a few posts from a long time back that I'm going to ry and get done over the next few days. I never did get our Easter and Hailey's birthday blogged. Even though they happened a while back, I want to get them documented since thismay be all the kids get to remember childhood holidays :).
Way back to easter, we decorated our eggs the day before Easter while Dave was sleeping (he worked through Easter this year). It was actually a busymorning for us. It started with a short bday party for HAiley (just my side of the family). Then we headed off to Tyler's soccer game. When that was done, we came back to deocrate our eggs. Fortunately Grammy was there to help me out.
Both kids had a fun time decorating eggs this year.
Tyler had the dropsies during the whole process. The eggs seemed to just leap out of his hands. Here's the evidence.
We ended up with 1 1/2 cartons (after the broken ones :)) of colored eggs to take to Aunt Gerry's for our annual egg hunt.
Grammy left the kids with the easter basket since she wasn't going to be at easter the next day. I somehow managed not to get a picture of their baskets but Hailey enjoyed her new binoculars.
